WAKEFIELD — Wakefield Fire Chief Michael Sullivan is pleased to announce two promotions within the department that became effective on April 9. Lieutenant John Walsh has been promoted to Fire Captain and Firefighter Daniel Hancock has been promoted to Fire Lieutenant.

Lieutenant John Walsh is a thirteen year member of the Wakefield Fire Department. He is a life-long Wakefield resident and a graduate of Wakefield Memorial High School. Walsh is a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served with the 133rd Air Refueling Squadron. He holds an associate’s degree in Fire Protection and Safety Technology from North Shore Community College, a bachelor’s degree in from Anna Maria College in Fire Science and a master’s degree in Public Administration, also from Anna Maria College. Walsh is a certified Emergency Medical Technician and holds numerous professional certifications including Firefighter I/II, Fire Officer I and Fire Instructor I and II. He has also received training in Basic and Advanced Fire Investigation and holds a certification as a Fire prevention officer Level I. Captain Walsh will be assigned as the department’s new Fire Prevention Officer, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Captain Christopher Smith earlier this year.

Firefighter Daniel Hancock is a seven year member of the Wakefield Fire Department. Firefighter Hancock is also a life-long Wakefield resident as well as a graduate of Wakefield Memorial High School. He holds an associate’s degree in Fire Protection and Safety Technology from North Shore Community College College and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration Management from Norwich University. Hancock is a certified Emergency Medical Technician and holds several professional certifications including Firefighter I/II and Fire Instructor I. He also has completed technical training classes in Rope Rescue, Trench Rescue and Confined Space Rescue. Lieutenant Hancock will be assigned to Group 1 under Captain Randy Hudson.
